Kayak to the land mark of the Auckland region while the sun is slowly setting over Auckland and the Waitakere Ranges.
We pull our kayaks up to Rangitoto wharf before embarking on a 1 hour leisurely walk to the summit where you will be treated to the best sunset location Auckland has to offer.
Under the guidance of your professional guide we paddle back in the dark watching the city lights sparkle like stars.
This tour is fully catered with all kayaking equipment provided.

This will need to be requested on your booking form when booking online. We pick up with our mini-van from outside the Atrium next to the seats. This takes place 30 minutes before trip start time.The Auckland War Memorial Museum, Tāmaki Paenga Hira, is one of New Zealand’s most important museums and war memorials. The taonga (treasures) from Māori, the peoples of Oceania and New Zealand, and our natural world are waiting to be discovered across three floors of magnificent galleries. A great place to learn and explore before heading out, or after paddling with us.

What To Expect
Paddle across Auckland's beautiful Waitematā Harbour on a guided sea kayak tour to Rangitoto Island, New Zealand's youngest and largest volcano. Enjoy spectacular views of the Hauraki Gulf as you kayak to the island, then join your guide for a walk to the summit, where you'll take in panoramic views over Auckland and its surrounding islands. After a healthy Kiwi-style BBQ dinner by the water, paddle back across the harbour at sunset and after dark, experiencing the city lights from a unique perspective. No previous kayaking experience is required, and all equipment is provided.

The maximum weight capacity for kayaking is 340 lbs / 154 kg.
Nov 2021No experience is necessary! Beginners are welcome on all of our kayak tours. Most of our guests have never been in a sea kayak before. Anyone in average physical condition may join a kayak tour. If you can hike or bike, you can paddle our sea kayaks. You do not need any swimming skills either.
The only prerequisite is a healthy spirit of curiosity and adventure.
Regardless of age or skill level you will find that our expeditions offer enough flexibility to make your experience with us safe and rewarding. We will show you proper sea kayaking technique and water safety before leaving the beach. And your expert guides will be with you throughout the adventure to give you pointers and improve your skills.
Sep 2022Your safety is City Balloon Tours’s number one concern. In general, sea kayaking is safer than most other outdoor pursuits, even bicycling.
Jan 2023If you have any doubts about becoming seasick on the water, we recommend taking a Dramamine® Motion Sickness Relief tablet the night before your trip. Some people recommend taking it the night before your cruise and then again that morning so you will not feel so drowsy.
Feb 2023- For a full refund, you must cancel at least 24 hours before the tour start time.
- If you cancel less than 24 hours before the tour start time, the amount you paid will not be refunded.
- Any changes made less than 24 hours before the tour start time will not be accepted.
